Medical Engineering

Medical engineers are competent classical engineers who apply engineering principles to the development of medical treatments, applications or diagnostic technologies that can enhance and save lives.

Our accredited medical engineering courses aim to produce highly competent engineers who can pursue a career in clinical engineering, bioengineering, or engineering fields outside medicine.

Cardiff has one of the more established medical engineering courses I looked at when deciding on a university. The course is amazing. It is heavily mechanical based in the first year and gets more specialised each year. My favourite module was biomechanics which is where we applied all the mechanics in the first year to the joints in the human body. I joined the engineering netball team in my first year and that allowed me to meet so many girls from engineering and make some friends I would never have met. It is great making friends with older students on the course as they can give you tips!
