Entry requirements for South Africa

During the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak we want to ensure the welfare of our staff and students. Our staff won't be able to attend international exhibitions or events at this time but you can still get in touch.

Our entry requirements will vary depending on your level of study, the course you are interested in and your English language proficiency.

Undergraduate courses

You will be required to hold a National Senior Certificate (post-2009) with a minimum requirement of five subjects with a combination of Grades 6 and 5.

Postgraduate taught courses

You will be required to have a good bachelor's degree with the equivalent of an upper second or a very good lower second grade to qualify for our postgraduate taught courses.

Postgraduate research courses

There are a number of possible entry routes to our postgraduate research courses. We will consider applicants who have successfully completed a Masters from a recognised South African institution.

In some cases, we will consider applicants who only have a Bachelor's degree (minimum Second Class, Higher Division), although applicants may be required to complete a Master's course at Cardiff University prior to embarking upon PhD studies.

English language

A relevant English Language Qualification is also required. If you are unsure of your qualifications or entry requirements, please contact us.
