The Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Diversity Research Group (MEAD) is an interdisciplinary research forum based in the School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University.

The Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Diversity Research Group (MEAD) is an interdisciplinary research forum based in the School of Social Sciences.

It aims to provide an inclusive platform for debates and discussions of the latest cutting-edge research on MEAD in the UK and beyond.

While primarily sociological and social science oriented, our members also include academic staff, post-doctoral research fellows, doctoral researchers and master’s students from other Academic Schools such as Architecture; English, Communication and Philosophy; Geography and Planning; Healthcare; Journalism; Law and Politics.

Aims

  • To create a forum to aid the development of intersectional and interdisciplinary research that involves work on migration, ethnicity, race, or diversity.
  • To provide opportunities for presentation of current research.
  • To foster greater collaboration of projects within Cardiff University and between the university and external organisations, including policy makers, NGOs, and other universities.
  • To develop a network of students, academic scholars, practitioners, policy makers, NGO representatives and partners who share a keen interest in the MEAD research.

To join our mailing list, please email us at mead@cardiff.ac.uk.

Research

Current and past research of our members range from asylum process, immigrant and refugee integration and settlement experiences, mental health and well-being, faith and schooling, ethnic and racial inequalities in education and employment, incarceration of black mothers and so on.

We hold regular seminars to examine theoretical, methodological and policy issues. Interdisciplinary collaborations are highly encouraged and valued, as is knowledge co-production with non-academic users of our research.
