Senghennydd Road building, led by the CPD Unit and CPE team has been awarded Bronze at the 2021 Awards for Green Impact, a national environmental accreditation programme.

Green Impact is a national scheme that provides simple and effective ways for staff and students to improve the sustainable practices of their building, department or college.

Due to the pandemic, many of the 2021 requirements were adapted so that they could be achieved at home - for example, rather than examining recycling facilities at the building, we were instead asked to report on home recycling rates, colleagues who create their own composting, use water butts, grow vegetables or who have created pollinator-friendly gardens. This allowed the auditors to build a picture of small changes our team is making in order to make a lasting environmental difference.

During what has been a very challenging period and with University staff working almost exclusively from home, we are incredibly proud of everyone who took part and made positive environmental changes to help us achieve the Bronze standard.

In early 2022 we will be moving into the new spark | sbarc building and we are really excited to be part of such a cutting-edge facility, with a strong emphasis on sustainable working practices. One of our team will be sitting on the Sustainability working group and we are looking forward to helping forge sustainable working practices in this showcase University building.
