Demonstrating public value and corporate responsibility

12 Gorffennaf 2017

Cardiff Business School is demonstrating its public value principles and commitment to being a responsible business through becoming a full member of Business in the Community Cymru (BiTC).

The School has a long and proud history as an advocate for corporate social responsibility and is a champion of progressive governance and community collaboration. Membership of BiTC Cymru marks a new chapter in the School’s history and re-asserts its public commitment to enabling, and promoting, positive change in business and society.

BiTC Cymru membership also sees the School join the Princes’ Responsible Business Network, which is a unique group of leading companies committed to acting responsibly as an employer, neighbour, customer and supplier. The overarching aim is to help Welsh businesses develop and succeed by maximising the commercial benefits of responsible business practice while making a real difference to the people and environment of Wales.

This is fully in line with the School’s bold, interdisciplinary, and challenge-led public value mission to deliver economic and social improvement, locally, nationally and internationally.

The School enjoys a close relationship with BiTC Cymru and Matt Appleby, Director BiTC Cymru, is a member of Cardiff Business School’s International Advisory Board, which advises the School's senior management on its strategic direction.

Professor Martin Kitchener, Dean of Cardiff Business School, said: “We are proud to join with BiTC Cymru and publicly demonstrate our commitment to responsible business practice. We operate a progressive approach to our own governance and are directing our resources to achieving our public value ambition of delivering social and economic improvement for our communities, at home and abroad.”

“We look forward to working with BiTC Cymru partners on priority issues such as education and young people, enterprise, employment, and the workplace, which marry well with some of our research specialisms. Working collaboratively, I firmly believe that we can generate real impact and stimulate significant change.”

Cardiff Business School is a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (UNPRME), pledged to the Equality and Human Rights Exchange Network’s Working forward campaign, and the 50:50 by 2020 initiative.
