Prestigious William Prusoff Award given to Andrea Brancale

Dr Andrea Brancale has been awarded this year's prestigious William Prusoff Award by the International Society for Antiviral Research. The prize recognises outstanding scientists under the age of 45 who have demonstrated dedication and excellence in the field of antiviral research and future potential for contribution to the field. The award will be presented to Andrea in front of the Society at the 26^th Annual ISAR meeting in San Francisco, May 2013.

The award honours one of the most talented and beloved members of the Society, William Prusoff, who has been a loyal member of the Society since its inception. His contributions to the development of antivirals, which have succeeded to clinical use, are legendary; his dedication to mentoring young scientists makes this award in his name truly appropriate.

ISAR is internationally recognised as the main organisation for scientists in the field and it organises the premiere international scientific meeting on antiviral research. The purpose of ISAR's annual meeting is to provide an interdisciplinary forum at which investigators involved in basic, applied, and clinical research worldwide can meet to review recent developments in all areas of antiviral research. The current membership of the International Society for Antiviral Research is a Who's Who of scientists involved in antiviral research.

This will be the second time the award has been given to a member of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Professor Chris McGuigan was the first ever recipient of the eminent award in 2001.
