27 Mehefin 2016

STEM day ajt
Professor Arwyn Jones welcomes the Year 12 students to Pharmacy.

The Pharmacy Engagement Team set up numerous hands on exciting engagement activities for the Cardiff University STEM Day event on Monday 27th June 2016.

The activities were all delivered by academic/research staff from the School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. For the first time the School opened its doors as an engagement site for the Cardiff University STEM day.   Sixty sixth form children shared all the activities on offer, covering some research in the School including:

  • The Honey team explaining the virtues of honey, the science of pollination and discovering new antibiotics
  • The Brain games focusing on cognitive function and highlighting current research on Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.
  • Meanwhile in the Sir Martin Evans Building the Battling Cancer Resistance Team were very busy showing how understanding cancer resistance to chemotherapy is paving the way to new therapies to tackle this important issue

Schools and colleges who attended thanked all the staff and students for making them feel so welcome and providing them and their students with a unique opportunity to witness some of the ongoing research at the School of Pharmacy.
