2015 Postgraduate Research Conference
6 Gorffennaf 2015
Cardiff University School of Engineering’s annual Postgraduate Research Conference, held at Gregynog in Powys from 29th June to the 1st July, provided the School’s postgraduates with the opportunity to showcase their work to staff and students alike.
The conference allows ideas to be presented and challenged, new avenues can be explored and studies are evaluated and tested.
Students presented their work through oral presentations and in poster form, learning to convey often complex ideas in a comprehensive and succinct way. Themes covered included energy and the environment; health, technology and the digital world; and mechanics, materials and advanced manufacturing.
The award for Best Poster went to Nidal Khatib for his work on ‘The biological and functional assessment of a novel implant device for the treatment of focal cartilage defects’, with posters by Ryan Marks and Nada Kadhim both receiving commendations.
Safaa Al-Jumaili won Best Presentation for ‘Using acoustic emission waveform clustering for damage characterisation in Composite materials under buckling test’. Presentations by David Williams and Aaron Cockerill were also highly commended.
Dr Peter Cleall, Head Postgraduate Research Tutor, said:
“The postgraduate research conference is and will remain a firm fixture in the School of Engineering’s calendar. Students get valuable feedback on their work from their peers, and they are given the chance to hone presentation skills that will be of great use in their chosen careers.”
