Professor Stuart Allan signs the new agreement with Associate Professor Dr Shahzad Ali of Bahauddin Zakariya University, Pakistan.

Head of School, Professor Stuart Allan has signed a Visiting Student Agreement with Bahauddin Zakariya University aimed at promoting scholarly activities and international understanding.

The agreement concludes several months of planning and negotiation with one of Pakistan’s largest universities and will create opportunities for postgraduate research students to visit Cardiff University.

Signing the new agreement, Professor Allan said: "We are very excited about this new agreement which will afford us an opportunity to explore different ways in which our respective institutions can collaborate and exchange ideas.

“These include exploring some of the pressing social issues that are confronting the world of journalism in our digital age, especially around areas such as teaching and research which are so important to both our universities.

"I think it’s also an exciting opportunity for staff here at the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies to share our good practice and also to engage in an ongoing and mutually beneficial conversation.”

Bahauddin Zakariya University was originally established as the University of Multan in 1975, before changing its name in 1979.

Its main campus, located 10 km from Multan city centre, is spread over 960 acres and is home to some 600 academic staff and more than 26,000 students.

The agreement will grant visiting students access to research seminars and academic advice from a tutor at Cardiff University and also access to learning, support and recreational services on the same basis as other students for the duration of their visit.

Professor Allan added: "May I extent to all at Bahauddin Zakariya University a warm welcome and I look forward to working together in the years ahead.”
