English Language and Literature rise to top 100 in the world

Cardiff University has joined the world's top 100 universities for the study of English Language & Literature in the 2016 QS World University Rankings.

This leap in ranking is an accolade that mirrors the School’s rise to the top ten in the latest UK assessment of research, in which English Language and Literature was ranked 10th out of 89 institutions for the significance, rigour and originality of its research in the overall rankings of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework exercise.

Head of School, Professor Damian Walford Davies, said: “Gaining QS global top 100 recognition based on reputation and hard data that reflect our successes across our research, teaching, employability and internationalization activities is an accolade of which we’re proud. In the UK and beyond, we will continue to shape our discipline by thinking connectedly about the links between research, teaching and the student experience and by ambitiously defining the qualities of graduates from our School, who are trained to think boldly and are equipped to make an impact in their chosen fields”.

Committed to enhancing the breadth, distinctiveness and relevance of the undergraduate curriculum, the School has fully reshaped the first year of its provision in English Literature and will be introducing an exciting new portfolio of modules, including Creative Writing, in the forthcoming academic year.

English Language and Literature joins seven sister-subjects at Cardiff University that rank in the 2016 QS World University Ranking top 100: Architecture, Geography, Psychology, Business, Communication & Media Studies, Engineering and Pharmacy – an increase of two on last year.
