Musicology book cover

First published by Routledge in 2005, Musicology: the Key Concepts co-authored by Dr David Beard and Professor Kenneth Gloag, is an essential reference guide for students of contemporary musicology.

Now a revised and expanded 2nd edition is available from Routledge. The book is a fully cross-referenced, A-Z reference guide to the terms and concepts associated with contemporary musicology. Drawing on critical theory with a focus on new musicology, the authors have updated all the concepts from the original edition, added 20 new concepts, and more than doubled the number of bibliographical entries to 1600.

New entries include: Autobiography; Cold War; Conflict; Consciousness; Creativity; Decadence; Disability; Ecomusicology; Emotion; Ethics; Film music; Form; Gesture; Lateness (late works/late style); Listening; 9/11; Politics; Popular musicology; Sound/soundscape/sound studies; Stance.
