CITER Research Workshop - Natural Compound Research for Tissue Repair and Regeneration in Wales
3 December 2018
A collaborative research workshop between CITER and MediWales was held on Wednesday 14 November in the brand new modern conference facilities at St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff. The theme of the workshop was Natural Compound Research for Tissue Repair and Regeneration in Wales.
Wales is currently a hotbed of research into the development of novel natural compounds to treat a wide variety of illnesses. Whereas some of these plants originate overseas, others are indigenous to Wales and the UK. The aim of this one day workshop was to showcase some of the cutting-edge research projects ongoing across Wales, with a general focus on antimicrobials, anti-inflammatories and tissue repair/regeneration.
This was the first time for CITER to open up this workshop to the general public. Consequently it was a well attended event with a broad range of delegates including industry led professionals, academics, A-level students as well as the general public. As part of the workshop delegates were encouraged to bring a poster of their research which gave delegates the opportunity to network and discuss the poster over break times and during the lunch time.
The keynote speakers included Dr Tom Prescott, Royal Botanical Gardens Kew and Mr Kevin Stephens from Agroceutical Products Ltd who delivered interesting and informative talks on their research. Many thanks to our guest speakers including Dr Vera Fitzsimmons-Thoss from Bangor University, Professor Luis Alejandro Mur from Aberystwyth University, Dr Nurdeen Hassan from Cardiff Metropolitan University as well as colleagues from Cardiff University.
Many thanks to the financial support from the Life Sciences Research Network (NRN).
The theme of the next research workshop is "Digital Technology Rehabilitation" and takes place on Wednesday 10 April 2019. Register your place here. If you are not a member of CITER and wish to attend there is a £30 attendance fee, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org directly to book your place.
