CIPR Award

Community Gateway has won Gold at the CIPR PRide Awards in the Community Relations category for 'Love Grangetown, Shop Grangetown' campaign.

The CIPR Cymru Wales PRide awards are an annual celebration of Wales’ thriving public relations community and the awards this year recognised Community Gateway's Love Grangetown, Shop Grangetown campaign as answering local business needs for practical support, guidance and training.

Following research by some of Cardiff University's business and marketing students, the campaign was launched to promote defined business support proposals and to highlight the benefits to both businesses and customers. The campaign worked with local partners Grangetown Community Action and supported businesses as they put the proposals into action.

Project lead Dr Mhairi McVicar said: “Community Gateway are delighted that this award recognises the strength of long-term partnerships between Grangetown and Cardiff University. From an initial idea put forward by resident Steve Duffy, to teaching collaborations over a number of years with Dr Eleri Rosier at Cardiff University Business School, to ideas becoming reality through the efforts of multiple partnerships across Grangetown and Cardiff University supported by Grangetown Community Action and the City Region Exchange, we'd like to thank absolutely everyone who has brought such commitment, passion and innovation to Love Grangetown, Shop Grangetown.”

The Community Gateway team recently also won the People category in an Images of Public Engagement competition run by the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE). The competition captured and celebrated inspiring engagement activities, culture change initiatives, and people involved in public engagement in UK higher education. The image submitted was of the Community Gateway team and comments included: 'It reminded the judges of how important friendship and mutual respect are in building successful engagement activity"

The Community Gateway team are very much looking forward to attending the annual NCCPE conference in November where members of the team will be presenting and leading sessions on university-community engagement.
