Associate Lecturer Yvonne Jordan, who also works as an advanced nurse practitioner at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport, has been recognised for services to nursing with an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Yvonne started her career in 1990working as a staff nurse at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. In 1994 she undertook a Master's degree in Ethics at Cardiff University, after which she started working in public health undertaking research into the provision of intensive care beds, the management of head injuries among patients in the community and many others projects.

Yvonne then qualified as a Nurse Practitioner, graduating in 2005. In January 2015 she joined the School of Healthcare Sciences as an Associate Lecturer, a role which enables her to continue with her work in clinical practice as well as contribute to the education of the nurses of the future.

Yvonne said;

"When I heard about the award I could not believe I had been chosen. My first thoughts were 'do I deserve this? and why me? Since then I have been encouraged to accept it as an award for all nurses; especially because it highlights the role of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

Being awarded an MBE is a great honor both for myself and the nursing profession. I would like to share this award with all my fellow nurse practitioners and raise the flag for advanced nursing practice in Wales."
