Global exploration consultancy host careers day

11 Rhagfyr 2017

Geology students at work in a lab

International practice SRK Consulting organised a careers day for Cardiff University geology and exploration students in November.

Around 30 students from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences’ Exploration and Resource Geology and Geology programmes attended the careers event, which was organised by SRK employee and former School of Earth and Environmental Sciences graduate Dr Lucy Roberts. It was the first event of its type organised by the company.

Students were able to sit with SRK experts to discuss their interests and career plans. They were also able to talk about the work that SRK does and potential opportunities for graduates in exploration geology, resource geology, mining geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, geotechnical engineering/engineering geology, mineral economics and project management/leadership positions.

After a downturn in 2008, it is expected that employment opportunities in the exploration and minerals industry will rise in the next year.

SRK Consulting is an independent, international consulting practice providing focused advice and solutions to the earth and water resource industries. Established in 1974, SRK employs more than 1,400 professionals internationally in over 45 offices on 6 continents.

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences has a close relationship with SRK Consulting and many graduates are employed there. SRK staff also give external expert lectures on some modules and attend School seminars.
