This course is aimed at absolute beginners and will introduce students to Mandarin Chinese language.
The emphasis is on developing speaking and listening skills as well as getting to know Chinese culture. No previous knowledge of the Chinese language is necessary. Anyone who wishes to develop basic skills of communication in Chinese, either for the purpose of career development or personal satisfaction, is welcomed to enrol.

Keith Miller - Chinese Beginners I
This course is designed for learners who have some basic knowledge of Mandarin and would like to keep up their language skills.
Learners will receive further training in listening and speaking, and develop their communication skills. This is an ideal course for those who have learned some basic Mandarin, such as having completed a Beginners I course (about 20 contact hours) or other qualifications deemed equivalent.

This course is for those who have a very basic knowledge of Chinese and would like to travel and live in China. This course is suitable for those who have learnt Mandarin Chinese part-time for at least one year.
Learners will consolidate their knowledge and further develop their language skills as well as their understanding of Chinese culture.
Topics covered include:
- telling the date
- asking for and giving directions
- making and responding to requests
- describing daily routines
- asking and answering questions about rules and service
- ordering dishes
- making a telephone call
- talking about living environment and places
- describing people's appearances and personalities
- talking about illness.

This is an ideal course for those who have studied Chinese for two years part-time and have built up a working vocabulary of about 400 characters.
Learners will continue to develop listening and speaking skills, and reading and writing will also be included. Whilst learning the language, learners will also develop an understanding of the culture of China.

This is an ideal course for those who have studied Chinese for three years part-time and have built up a working vocabulary of about 600 characters.
Learners will continue to improve their speaking and listening skills, and reading and writing training will also be enhanced. Whilst learning the language, learners will also develop an understanding of the culture of China.

This is an ideal course for those who have studied Chinese for four years part-time and have built up a working vocabulary of about 1,200 characters.
The main course textbook to be used will be Great Wall Chinese (V), a multimedia product that provides rich teaching resources, including on-line multimedia courseware, multimedia CD in addition to the traditional hard copies of the textbook and workbook.
Learners will deepen their skills in all four language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing.
