Cardiff Confucius Institute engages new Business School students with language and culture
Cardiff Confucius Institute (CCI) joined Cardiff Business School’s 2025 induction week at the Postgraduate Teaching Centre on September 23, introducing Chinese language opportunities and hands-on cultural activities to new students.
The Institute’s stand drew strong interest across the orientation fair, with students trying brush-writing, learning about the origins and evolution of Chinese characters, and taking home personalised bookmarks. Several students made on-the-spot enquiries about course registration, and some expressed interest in future student exchange in China.
CCI staff also outlined Chinese language courses and the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test), noting that achieving the relevant HSK level can support scholarship applications to study in China. The team also offered guidance on exam preparation and documentation, and shared information on Sino-foreign student summer programmes.
Many barriers to international trade are cultural rather than purely economic. By building understanding through language and culture, Cardiff Confucius Institute helps reduce such barriers between the UK and China and lays the groundwork for future academic and business exchange.
