Dr Christian Bueger

Christian Bueger is Lecturer in International Relations in the Department of Politics and International Relations, Cardiff University. In 2013 he was a visiting fellow at the Centre for Advanced Security Theory, University of Copenhagen, in 2011 a Leverhulme Fellow at the Greenwich Maritime Institute, London and prior a research fellow at the Institute for Development and Peace, Duisburg, Germany (2010). He obtained his PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute, Florence, Italy (2010). The focus of his PhD was on the practice of International Organizations drawing on the example of United Nations peacebuilding politics. During his PhD studies he was a visiting researcher at Cornell University, Ithaca, USA and a research assistant to the European Report on Development 2009. Prior he graduated as a Diplom-Politologe from the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and worked at the Institute for Social Research and the Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt.

Dr Bueger's fields of research are Security Studies, International Political Sociology and International Practice Theory. His research interests include international organizations, sociology of science, the United Nations and maritime security. He is currently working on a research project funded by the UK's Economic and Social Research Council titled "Counter-Piracy Governance – A Praxiographic Analysis" that compares different institutional responses to maritime piracy. He has published over 30 articles and book chapters which have appeared or are forthcoming in international journals.
