TCS London Marathon 2027
Thank you for your interest in joining #TeamCardiff for the TCS London Marathon 2027.
Each of Cardiff University’s charity places represents a vital source of funding for our neuroscience and mental health, and cancer research. We invest in these places so we can offer them to dedicated fundraisers who are committed to supporting life changing discoveries.
100% of the fundraising monies received by Cardiff University will go directly to your chosen university research cause.
If your application is successful, Cardiff University agrees to provide:
- one guaranteed entry place into the TCS London Marathon 2027
- support from a dedicated member of our team
- access to fundraising materials, ideas, and advice
- a #TeamCardiff running top
You will be notified by 10 July 2026 whether your application has been successful.
By ticking the box on the application form, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions if awarded a charity place:
1. Event organiser responsibility
- The TCS London Marathon is organised by London Marathon Events, who are solely responsible for the conduct and operation of the event, including all health and safety requirements. You must agree to their full terms and conditions.
- As London Marathon Events are the event organiser, Cardiff University accepts no responsibility or liability for your participation in the event.
2. Registration, entry and fees
- You agree to pay a non-refundable registration fee of £75 within one week of receiving confirmation of your place. Failure to pay will result in your place being forfeited. This fee does not contribute toward your fundraising target.
- You must complete the official TCS London Marathon online entry process within two weeks of receiving the registration link. Failure to complete this may result in your place being withdrawn.
3. Fundraising requirements
- You agree to exclusively represent and raise funds for Cardiff University as part of your marathon participation.
- You agree to raise a minimum of £2,500 (excluding Gift Aid).
- Fundraising milestones (excluding Gift Aid) are as follows:
- £625 (25%) by 31 October 2026
- £1,250 (50%) by 31 January 2027
- £2,000 (80%) by 31 March 2027
- All funds must be paid to Cardiff University by 31 May 2027. If the minimum fundraising requirement has not been met by this date, you agree to cover the remaining balance personally.
- We will regularly monitor fundraising progress. If we determine that you are not committed to meeting the required fundraising level, we reserve the right to withdraw your place so it can be reallocated to someone on our waiting list.
We will always offer support to help you stay on track. - Matched funding from employers will count towards your fundraising total, if this is received by 31 May 2027.
4. Fundraising conduct
- You agree to carry out all fundraising in compliance with:
- The Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice
- relevant health and safety requirements
- local authority permissions (if applicable)
- Fundraising activities that are high-risk must receive approval from Cardiff University before proceeding.
- You agree to use Cardiff University’s name, branding, and fundraising materials appropriately and only in ways authorised by the University.
5. Fitness, insurance and health
- You are responsible for ensuring that you are physically fit and medically able to participate in the marathon.
- Cardiff University strongly recommends that you seek medical advice before beginning training and obtain personal insurance to cover injury, loss, travel, or event cancellation.
- Participation is undertaken at your own risk.
- You must notify Cardiff University as soon as possible if you are unable to take part due to injury or ill health.
Please note, unfortunately, due to the terms and conditions set by London Marathon Events, we are unable to defer the charity place to the 2028 London Marathon event.
6. Data protection
- Cardiff University will collect and process your personal data for the purposes of:
- managing your marathon participation
- supporting your fundraising
- communicating relevant event information
- We will process your information in accordance with UK GDPR and Cardiff University’s Privacy Policy.
- Your details will not be shared with third parties except where necessary to administer your marathon place (e.g., London Marathon Events).
7. Event cancellation, delay or amendment
- If the TCS London Marathon is cancelled, postponed, or amended by London Marathon Events, Cardiff University will follow their guidance.
- Registration fees paid to Cardiff University are non refundable under any circumstances.
- If the event is cancelled or postponed, fundraising will normally continue unless London Marathon Events provides an alternative arrangement. Cardiff University will discuss options with you at the time.
8. Behaviour and representation
- By accepting a charity place, you agree to represent Cardiff University positively and not bring the University into disrepute through your actions or behaviour associated with the marathon.
