Terms and conditions

Thank you for your interest in joining #TeamCardiff to run Cardiff Half Marathon.

Each of our charity places represents an essential source of fundraising towards Cardiff University’s neuroscience and mental health, and cancer research. We have invested in our charity places, so that we can provide them to our fundraisers in return for their fundraising commitment. Our terms and conditions, and our application process are designed to help maximise #TeamCardiff’s fundraising and accelerate life-changing research discoveries.

Registration and fundraising commitment

  1. To secure one of our charity places, we ask runners to pay a non-refundable £10 registration fee. This is to ensure that every place makes a real difference towards Cardiff University’s research.
  2. By accepting a Cardiff University charity place, you agree to raise a minimum of £275 (excluding Gift Aid) in support of your chosen Cardiff University research cause.
  3. Until you have registered, paid the fee and set up your fundraising page, your charity place is not guaranteed.
  4. If you do not set up your fundraising page within 2 weeks of registering, we reserve the right to withdraw your charity place.
  5. If you have not raised 25% of the fundraising target by 1 August, we reserve the right to withdraw your place, however we will make every effort to work with you to help your fundraising. If you register for the event after 1 August, we’ll get in touch to discuss how we can support you to hit your fundraising target.
  6. Participants agree to make all reasonable efforts to achieve their fundraising target no later than six weeks after the event. If you anticipate difficulties reaching your target, please contact the fundraising team as early as possible so that we can discuss how we may be able to support you.
  7. 100% of the donations we receive will go directly to your chosen Cardiff University research cause.

Race entry withdrawals

  1. We understand things change. If you are unable to run, or decide not to, please let us know before the transfer deadline of 29 August so we can reallocate your charity place. After this date, your place cannot be reallocated, directly impacting the fundraising amount raised.
  2. Unfortunately, if you withdraw after the transfer deadline of 29 August your place and fundraising cannot be deferred to the next Cardiff Half event.
  3. Any sponsorship or donations received in support of your challenge cannot be refunded if you are unable to participate in the event.

Participation and communication

  1. Cardiff University reserves the right to withdraw a charity place where these terms and conditions are not met, including where fundraising milestones are missed, required registration steps are not completed, or there is a lack of engagement with fundraising or event communications.
  2. Participants agree to maintain reasonable communication with the Cardiff University fundraising team regarding their participation and fundraising activity. Failure to engage with communications may result in the withdrawal of a charity place.

Other

  1. Our limited charity places are allocated using the information you provide in your application, as well as the order that we receive applications. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer everyone a place, and application is not a guarantee of a place. If you are not successful, we will add you to a reserve list and get in touch should a space become available. Please note that our decision is final.
  2. By taking part in the event, you confirm that you are medically fit to participate and accept responsibility for undertaking any necessary training in preparation for the event.
  3. Participants must comply with the terms and conditions of the event organiser. Cardiff University accepts no responsibility for decisions made by the event organiser, including event cancellation, postponement, route changes or alterations to event arrangements.
  4. Video footage and/or photographs taken during race day may be used to publicise #TeamCardiff's places in Cardiff Half Marathon or other fundraising events. Please let us know if you would prefer not to feature in any media.
