Building

We are one of Europe’s top facilities for brain imaging.

Housing a powerful combination of neuroimaging devices, we continue to further our world-leading research which has already established the university as one of the top three in the UK for psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience.

Take a look around the building

Consolidating smart-specialisation expertise in neuroimaging, The Centre is comparable in scale with facilities in North America, enabling research done in Wales to compete with the very best in the world.

Significant asset to the university

The £44m Centre, which opened in spring 2016, forms part of the university’s Maindy Park site, which is a redevelopment housing a range of buildings promoting the university’s ambition to be a world leader in research and innovation.

We worked closely with architects IBI to design a building which can facilitate the bespoke and high-end equipment housed within it.

Sustainability is central to the design and it is hoped that the building will achieve a BREEAM excellence rating. The whole site is a significant asset to the university, the city, region and beyond.

The Centre is a magnificent facility that is taking us on a unique journey of discovery through the human body and brain. It is an exciting time to be working in this area, and we look forward to the impact of the Centre in addressing some of the major health challenges of our time.
