Four New Lecturer Posts

Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies is seeking four new lecturers. These posts are also available as Teaching and Scholarship contracts. A teaching and scholarship contract offers the opportunity to undertake teaching activity including the development, delivery and evaluation of modules/programmes within the undergraduate and post qualification provision within the School.  Supervision of students and administrative duties when required will also form part of the role.

Job Description

  1. To deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  2. To design teaching material and to lead modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  3. To contribute independently to module and curriculum development
  4. To set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students
  5. To be responsible for administrative duties in areas such admissions, timetabling, examinations, assessment of progress and student attendance
  6. To manage projects relating to own area of work and the organisation of external activities such as placements and field trips
  7. To develop ideas for generating income and promoting the subject
  8. To supervise student projects, field trips and where appropriate placements
  9.  To act as module tutor and to be responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area
  10. To participate in and develop external networks eg facilitate outreach work, obtain consultancy projects, secure student placements
  11. To possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop teaching programmes and the provision of learning support
  12. To mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development
  13. To undertake personal and professional development that is appropriate to and will enhance the performance in the role of Lecturer
  14. To ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in respect of equality and diversity, data protection, copyright and licensing, security, financial and other University policies, procedures and codes as appropriate

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  1. A well-organised approach to work with the evidence of ability to work to strict timescales and to motivate and organise others to achieve deadlines
  2. The ability to provide appropriate support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances and to act as a personal tutor and be responsible for the pastoral care of students
  3. Effective teaching skills with the ability to design teaching material and deliver high-quality lectures and tutorials across a range of modules or within a subject area
  4. Evidence of the ability to participate and develop external networks
  5. Evidence of the ability to extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities
  6. Ability to design and deliver own modules and assessment methods
  7. Ability to act as module leader and co-ordinate with others to ensure student needs and expectations are met
  8. Ability to mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development
  9. A first class or good second class honours degree in nursing and a PhD or Professional Doctorate in nursing or related discipline (or close to completion), or other relevant equivalent experience
  10. Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council

Desirable Criteria

  1. An understanding of equal opportunity issues
  2. Experience of teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level in a variety of settings
  3. Evidence of the ability to provide a definitive source of expertise in nursing and to demonstrate continuous specialist development
  4. Experience of carrying out administrative duties
  5. Evidence of ability to reflect on performance following feedback in order to improve teaching design and delivery
