Fundamentals of Community Practice (Core Compulsory Module)  (NR3160)

This module forms the basis of a number of Community nurse education pathways available from Cardiff University, namely BSc Community Health Studies (SPQ), BSc Community Practice and MSc Advanced Practice (Community Health Studies). It is aimed at nurses who currently work in any community setting or in an area where it is planned that services and roles will move wholly or partially from secondary to primary care in the future.

This module has been developed on an all-Wales basis in order to develop nurses to work effectively in community settings. The overall aim of module is to provide nurses with generic core knowledge and skills to work safely and effectively in a community setting.

The themes of the module will be:

  • Community as the context of care
  • Professional role and accountability
  • Practice in the community
  • Family centred care

Each theme has a  theory and practice component and  the module will be delivered over a 15 week period.  The module will include 7 taught days, 4 directed study days and 20 days in clinical practice
