- Care and Management of the child with cancer
- Nursing care of the child on cytotoxic chemotherapy
- Nursing care and management of the side effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy

- The psychological impact on the child with cancer and the family
- Awareness of the many roles undertaken by nurses within the Unit.
Preparation for Practice:
Within Theory Block 2; aetiology, epidemiology of childhood cancer, malignant cells, treatment of childhood cancer, side effects of treatment are addressed. The psychological impact is discussed. Students undertake group work during the sessions and are given a comprehensive reading list. A session is facilitated from a specialist nurse from the Teenage Cancer Trust. The students also have a session on bereavement and loss during this module.
