Key Learning Opportunities:
It is the philosophy of this ward to provide person centred, evidence based care to working aged adults. This unit adheres to a Recovery focused approach.
The client group present with a number of mental health issues, these include bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, personality disorder and clinical depression. While placed on this ward students will have the opportunity to be involved with all aspects of client care including assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation. In addition students will have opportunities to attend various meetings such as ward rounds, buffer meetings, Mental Health Measure meetings and relapse prevention meetings.
Students will have opportunities to witness and care for clients undergoing ECT as well as attend a depot clinic and day services. Staff on the unit also liaise closely with other services and consequently visits can be facilitated to community mental health teams, crisis assessment and home treatment, low secure services and recovery/rehabilitation services
