Modernising Dental Education

What is MDE

The Modernising dental education (MDE) Programme is a strategic initiative set-up to manage the review of the Schools’ educational provision with the overall aim being to ensure we excel at how we can train dentists and dental care professionals (Hygienists and Therapists). The programme of projects being developed encompasses all aspects of the School’s educational activities, including learning, teaching, assessments and clinical training within the School and University Dental Hospital, as well as in community-based clinics and primary dental care educational units. MDE is also focussing on how best to use NHS and School resources to enhance student experience and patient care.

Professor Paul Dummer, Vice-Dean of Learning & Teaching, said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for people to have their say as to how we should train and produce the dental professionals of the future. We want to ensure we are leading the way in terms of what we teach, how we teach, and the facilities we provide.  The aim is to continue delivering the highest quality of patient care and the student educational experience.”
