Our world renowned research delivers improvements to the health and wellbeing of society.
We have various centres and groups which carry out specialised research, including the Violence Research Group, which won the Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2010 for its research on violent crime.

Research honours and awards
Researchers within the School of Dentistry have won a number of prestigious awards for their research:
- King James IV Professor Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh 2013-2014 – Professor David Thomas.
- International Association for Dental Research Young Investigator Distinguished Scientist award 2011 – Professor Alastair Sloan.
- Queen's Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education in 2009 – Professor Jonathan Shepherd and the Violence Research Group.
- British Dental Association John Tomes Medal for scientific eminence and outstanding service to the profession 2006 – Professor Elizabeth Treasure
