Masters student Rhys Tomos has been accepted for a prestigious internship with the Ministry of Education in Singapore.
He will depart for Singapore in September, after completing his MA. During the internship, over the course of a year, Rhys will teach music to secondary-school students while receiving mentorship and assessment from experienced teachers.
Rhys will also spend time running extra-curricular activities for the students and direct small ensembles in the School.
Speaking of the opportunity, Rhys said: “I am very excited about the opportunity I have been given – to teach a subject I love in a place filled with such a dynamic mix of cultures and history is a dream come true.
“I was very impressed, while reading the syllabus, that there is such an emphasis on nurturing the pupils to be valued members of society through music, and I hope to further this by drawing on the experiences I have had over my years in Cardiff as a student.”
Dr Cameron Gardner, the School's International and Socrates-Erasmus Coordinator said of Rhys's achievement: "This marks a great opportunity for a music graduate to begin a career in teaching in one of the best education systems in the world.
"We wish Rhys all the best for his internship in Singapore, confident that he will meet new challenges, draw upon the mentorship provided, and inspire classes of children to learn."
