part-time MBA
The Part-time MBA delivers all of the benefits of the Full-time MBA programme but is extended over 27 months to accommodate the needs of busy managers. The study programme includes a thorough coverage of key functional aspects of management, balanced with specialist study areas and a global and European focus that meets many of the challenges facing today's managers.
The programme gives managers problem-solving frameworks which incorporate an appreciation of both the theoretical and the practical - perfect for part-time students in an ideal position to apply these principles directly to their management environment.
Part-time study at this level is naturally very demanding in terms of time and discipline, and students must be prepared to make a commitment to the full two years. In return however, you can expect significant rewards through advanced management education that can have a substantial bearing on your current and future career moves. You can expect to complete the course having gained greater confidence in your overall management abilities, through the enhancement of your interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
Course structure
Over two years students will be required, in general, to attend lectures and syndicate meetings one afternoon and two evenings per week, during term time. Each year the core section of teaching is delivered between late September and Easter. Following examinations in April, students continue with an elective course which is concluded with an examination in June. In addition, from July to December of the second year, students are required to prepare and submit a dissertation embodying the methods and results of an individual research project in a chosen area.
Year 1 Core courses: You will follow the courses which make up the subject area Organization and Personnel and two of the courses which make up the subject area Information and Control, (Financial Management and Business Statistics).
You will then choose one course from the list of electives available.
Year 2 You will follow the courses which make up the subject area Strategy and the Environment and the remaining course which makes up the subject area Information and Control, (Operations Management).
You will then choose a course from the list of electives available.
This will be followed by the project and dissertation element of the degree
Assessment:
Each core course is assessed through two assignments and an examination in April. Then between April and June each-year, part time students are given the opportunity to specialise in one particular area of interest from the full choice of electives offered in the full-time MBA. These are assessed with one or two pieces of coursework and an examination in June. Electives are timetabled throughout the week depending on your choice of subject.
The second year of the programme of study is complemented with a group project which culminates in the submission of a written business plan and oral presentation. This project is assessed as the equivalent of half a subject.
