The Plasmepsins

Plasmodium falciparum is now known to encode at least 9 aspartic proteinases (plasmepsins) along with a further Histo-aspartic proteinase (HAP) which is very closely related to plasmepsins I, II and IV. Their nucleotide and protein sequences can be downloaded via the link below. Links to further plasmepsins in the database from other Plasmodium parasites are also provided.

Crystal structures have been determined for plasmepsin sequences and are available from Brookhaven Protein Data Bank (PDB) mirror sites. Theoretical models of further plasmepsins are also available at these sites. Links below are only to those structures determined crystallographically.
