Develop your skills, deepen your understanding and enhance your career prospects with our postgraduate programmes.
Big Data Biology (MSc)
From microbiomes, phenomes and genomes to whole ecosystems, biologists are capturing ever bigger and more complex data sets. Enhance your employability by learning how to harvest, model and interpret big data - skills in demand by academia, government and industry.
The unique, holistic approach of our new, innovative MSc Big Data Biology will enable you to use cutting-edge, big data platforms to tackle issues from developmental biology to disease surveillance and ecology.
Directly aligned to current technology, from genome sequencing to bio-imaging, our MSc covers core areas such as systems biology, bioinformatics, statistics and ‘omics’ approaches. With a focus on hands-on interdisciplinary training, you will learn how to gather big data and model it for analysis at different biological scales - from molecules to ecosystems.
Listen to Course Director Dr Veronica Grieneisen talking about the MSc in our Big Data Biology podcast.
Global Ecology and Conservation (MSc)
The world is facing unprecedented challenges, and to meet these challenges, we need innovative and adaptable scientists who can develop conservation strategies with real impact.
From the rivers of South Wales to the Bornean rainforest, our MSc in Global Ecology and Conservation covers the major conservation issues affecting various habitats across the globe.
With training in core areas, such as wildlife surveys, biodiversity assessments and species management, you will learn how to identify current and emerging threats to species and ecosystems, and develop the necessary skills to tackle these threats with effective and scalable solutions.
We also provide teaching expertise for the Cardiff Institute of Tissue Engineering and Repair (CITER) MSc in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.
This course was the first of its kind in the UK and aims to provide graduates from the life sciences and clinical backgrounds with advanced knowledge, understanding and skills in the science and practice of tissue engineering; from theoretical science, through to research translation and clinical application.
Scholarships available worth £3,000 each for UK students starting a master’s degree in September 2023.
