HOW TO RUN THIS TUTORIAL

1) This tutorial runs using the Jmol software and should be compatible with all operating systems and web browsers running Java.

2) Read the notes on this page then click one of the "Start the Tutorial" features above.

3) Click the browser "Back" option to return to this page.

4) The display pages operate using Jmol and you can explore the display further within these pages.

(i) Click button next to 'Display Feature' and read the text that follows describing the structure shown.
(ii) Click any of the options provided. eg: The "Rock" option gives an impression of the three dimensional nature of the molecule by moving it slightly around its axis.
(iii) Click the stereo option to produce stereo images of the molecule. These can be downloaded into a drawing package by copying and pasting and can be viewed with a stereo viewer (set sizes so that any given point on one stereo image is 6.5cm from the equivalent point on the other image).
(iv) The image can also be manipulated in the normal way for a Jmol display. Eg.
(a) Place the cursor on the molecule, hold down the mouse button and drag to rotate the image.
(b) Depress shift key and mouse button to zoom in or out with the mouse.
(c) Hold down the right mouse button and select one of the options displayed.
