Linton Village College in the UK travel to DGFC
3 August 2010
From 18 to 23 July, a group of 14 students and staff from Linton Village College in the UK travelled to DGFC as an expedition under UK-based specialist personal development company Wilderness Expertise. The group spent a week collecting rubbish from several stretches of the river down from Batu Puteh village and also from a closed-down nature camp site in the forest. Armed with bin bags, rubber gloves and nets, the students collected around ¼ of a ton of waste in the form of plastics, glass, tin, polystyrene and various other materials. Surprisingly, more weight in rubbish was collected in total in one afternoon from the closed-down nature camp site than four mornings on the river! The students could also enjoy the wonderful wildlife around DGFC, including sightings of elephants and orangutans.
