Jack Hanna in Sabah

31 October 2009

Ben, Jack Hanna and Farina

On 23 and 24 October, zoologist television personality Jack Hanna was in Sukau, Kinabatangan, with his film crew to capture Sabah’s elephants, proboscis monkeys and orangutans on film to be shown in the “Into the Wild” television show in the US. Nurzhafarina Othman, Cardiff University student working on the Bornean elephant social behaviour with DGFC and HUTAN, will appear on the show as she was interviewed by Jack Hanna and his wife, while observing a herd of wild elephants feeding on grass and bathing in the Kinabatangan river.

In 1992, Jack Hanna became Director Emeritus at the Columbus Zoo (the zoo has been sponsoring our elephant project since 2007) and in 1993 he became the host of Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures, a nationally syndicated television series. After more than 10 years with Animal Adventures, he decided to start a new TV series, Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild, in which he explores the corners of the globe and discovers wildlife and cultures. In June 2008, the series was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Series. You can find more on Jack Hanna by visiting his web site at http://www.jackhanna.com/
