Research Overview
My research is broad ranging, unified by the use of diverse statistical methods – often from outside biology – to answer ecological questions. The major focus is upon river systems, both in their own right and as model systems for the development of ecological theory and methods. Current research topics include: the relationships between physical habitat, ecological processes and the distribution of river organisms; the effects of multiple anthropogenic stressors (e.g. river engineering, flow regulation, pollutants) on river organisms; longitudinal analysis of species-environment relationships; and predicting species’ responses to environmental change.
