Research Overview
For his PhD Fred Slater studied peatland ecology in central Wales and continues this interest in work on upland habitat restoration in relation to wind farm development and the ecology of mawn pools. However, his main current research interest is in the cultivation and biodiversity of biomass crops both willows and grasses. He has other research interests related to otters, amphibians, freshwater crayfish and eco-tourism.
He is the Director of the School of Biosciences Llysdinam Field Centre at Newbridge-on-Wye in Mid Wales and in consequence has a continuing interest in the development of field and taxonomic training especially for ecology students
