Work experience and placements

We are committed to providing students with opportunities to gain work-related learning. This can be in the form of a short work experience Insight, paid internships or a full-year placement.

We are always looking to engage with employers who wish to recruit our students, with many returning to recruit each year.

Our experience with Cardiff University’s Work Experience Team has been extremely positive and rewarding. We’ve not only been able to support a student in gaining valuable professional experience, but our team has also benefited from the fresh perspectives and enthusiasm that the student brought with her. It’s a truly mutually beneficial arrangement that we look forward to continuing in the future.

Your designated point of contact in the team will assist with every aspect of arranging an internship or work experience placement. This includes advertising, shortlisting, setting up interviews and monitoring progress.

We also have a network of placement officers working within academic schools to support students who want to undertake a year in industry placement. If this an opportunity you’d like to explore, we will put you in touch with the appropriate contact.

Students with a specific skillset

Each Academic School arranges its own placements. For example, the MBA and the MSc in Strategic Marketing courses team students with local and national businesses to create marketing and business plans.

For further information please contact the individual Schools.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a three-way partnership between an organisation, a graduate and Cardiff University. Part-funded by Government, the scheme provides access to academic skills and expertise to businesses who wish to innovate, expand or improve their performance.

Benefits include:

  • increased profitability and performance
  • competitive advantage
  • process enhancement
  • reduction in costs
