Supporting under-represented students

We know that some students come from disadvantaged backgrounds. As a diverse and supportive institution we do everything we can to help make the graduate labour market a level playing field for all students.

Career Confident: talent spotting, diversity and corporate social responsibility

Career Confident is funded by GO Wales through Medr, and is part of Student Futures at Cardiff University. Career Confident offers personalised employability support to students from underrepresented backgrounds, helping them build the skills, confidence, and connections they need to thrive. We’re inviting employers to partner with us by providing meaningful opportunities that empower students and strengthen their skills. Join us in shaping a more inclusive future workforce.

Career Confident is a flexible programme, providing bespoke virtual, in-person and blended opportunities.

You can support students through:

  • Meet the Professional: host up to three short, informal meetings with staff. Students gain valuable insights into your roles, career journeys, and the key skills needed in your organisation and sector.
  • Insight: host a student on an unpaid experience for up to ten days where they can meet staff, explore job roles and take part in tasks that build their confidence and understanding.
  • Paid Placement: support a student’s skills development through a short-term paid opportunity where they’ll work on a specific project or task.
  • Group Insight Day: welcome a group of students - they’ll explore your sector, meet staff, and where possible, engage in simulated workplace activities.
  • On-Campus Workshop: join us on campus at our bespoke workshops to share your expertise on networking, interviews or workplace skills.
