King Edward VII Avenue
Bute Building is located on King Edward VII Avenue. There is level access from the road to the front of the building, at the entry points to the building forecourt. The car park is accessed from King Edward VII Avenue. Entry into the car park is through a security barrier, operated with a University identification card. The card reader is accessible and can be accessed whilst seated in the car.
The reception desk is located at the main entrance, on the right. The reception is fitted with an induction loop. Please use the 'T' setting on your hearing device to use the loop. There is a very shallow, short slope (1/12) at the main entrance doors. There are two sets of double doors to enter the building, both of which are automated (doors open away from you).
There is also an accessible side entrance accessible from the car park. There are two designated accessible parking bays in front of this entrance to the building. There is a shallow ramp leading to the door. A validated University identification card is required to open this door. Contact your tutor, manager or event coordinator if you require access through this door. The card reader is located to the left and set back from the door, which is automated (opens towards you). To exit out of this door, press the green button to the left of the door.
Accessible unisex toilets are located on the first and second floors. The first floor toilet (room number 1.62) is located in the landing area, opposite the library entrance. The second floor toilet (room number 2.51) is located in the landing area.
There is one lift in the Bute Building which accesses the lower ground, upper ground, first and second floors. The lift is located to the right at the main entrance, just past the reception desk.
There is full access from the lift and the stairs to the accessible toilet, Birt Acres Lecture Theatre and the Bute Library entrance. All other areas on the first floor have restricted access for security purposes. There are four sets of double doors with restricted keypad access. A code is required to open these doors, which can be obtained from the Bute Library or your tutor. Please note that the code is changed periodically for security purposes.
When the code has been entered the doors will open automatically. Keypads are positioned 1100mm above the floor. Keypads are located at least 2.5 meters away from the doors if they doors open automatically towards you.
The Bute Building has an accessible coffee shop on the ground floor, located opposite the main entrance.
There is public pay and display parking along King Edward VII Avenue very close to the Bute Building. Blue Badge holders can park in any of these spaces free of charge.
