Our videos

Studying Welsh at Cardiff University

Our Director of Recruitment and Admissions, Dr Elen Ifan, talks about the importance of studying Welsh and the career opportunities that a degree in Welsh can lead to.

An experience to remember – student reflections on life in the capital

Our student satisfaction scores are consistently high. Here’s what some of them told us about their unforgettable experiences with us and the wealth of opportunities – social, cultural and professional – that were available to them.

Come to Cardiff University! The city has a lot to offer and there are endless options of activities for everyone. There is an excellent range of work spaces, as well as areas to socialise. The best decision I made was to come study at Cardiff.

Accelerate your career

We usually guarantee a period of work experience for all students through our Yr Iaith ar Waith module and have excellent relationships with a range of exciting employers across different sectors including the arts, education, media, politics and heritage. This is an excellent opportunity to put your learning to the test in a workplace where Welsh is used daily and develop your professional skills.

Work experience

Here are some of our students talking about their work experience.

Embrace the community

There’s a wealth of social and cultural activities and opportunities for you to enjoy, within the School, the University and of course across the city.

Cymdeithas Iolo

Cymdeithas Iolo is the School of Welsh’s society that focuses more on cultural things, and everyone is very welcome to come to their events, whether you are a student at the School or not.

The Gym Gym

Another way to enjoy a lively social life is by joining the Welsh society – the famous Gym Gym. You can join one of their sports teams, attend social events, or even take a trip to Dublin or Edinburgh to support the Welsh rugby team.

Waun Ddyfal choir

Or are you more of a singing person? If so, the Waun Ddyfal choir will be right up your street. Many of your fellow students will be members of this social but successful choir.

I would really recommend studying at Cardiff University because of all the academic and extracurricular opportunities available. I feel the University staff fully supports me with my studies, and it has been great to join societies like the Gym Gym, as well as having extracurricular experiences that will benefit me in the future, for example, contributing to the University newspaper, Gair Rhydd, and getting work experience as part of the Llais y Maes team.
