The Red Dragon Scholarship
Applications for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship for January 2027 entry are now open.
The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship supports students from Mainland China or Türkiye to achieve their goal of studying at Cardiff University in January 2027.
The scholarship award for January 2027 entry is £10,000 and will be available in both rounds of the Red Dragon Scholarship application process.
This scholarship reflects Cardiff University’s ongoing commitment to supporting students interested in studying with us. We hope this award helps make your journey to Cardiff more accessible and rewarding as you take the next step towards securing your place.
To be eligible for the Red Dragon Scholarship, you must
- be domiciled in Mainland China or Türkiye
- be classed as an international fee-paying student
- be holding an offer for an eligible full-time, campus-based postgraduate taught master’s programme at Cardiff University commencing in January 2027 at the point of submitting a scholarship application
- have accepted your academic course offer by the deadline of the scholarship round in which you are applying
- have submitted your scholarship application by the deadline of the scholarship round in which you are applying
- meet all conditions of your academic offer, including any English Language conditions and any other outstanding conditions stated in your offer, by 11 December 2026
Please note that if you are awarded the scholarship, you will also be given a scholarship deposit deadline. This is separate from the deposit deadline attached to your academic course offer.
Any extension agreed to your course deposit deadline does not automatically extend the deadline attached to your Red Dragon Scholarship award. The scholarship deposit deadline stated in your scholarship offer is final and cannot be extended.
How to apply
To apply for the Red Dragon Scholarship, you must submit a completed application form by the deadline of the scholarship round in which you are applying.
A link to the application form will be emailed to eligible offer holders.
The application deadlines are
- Round 1: Friday 30 October 2026
- Round 2: Friday 27 November 2026
The online application form is easy to complete and should only take a maximum of 10 minutes. You will need to include
- your Cardiff University application number
- your current or most recent institution of study
- your current or most recent average CGPA and percentile mark
How we award
Applications may be reviewed and scholarship awards made throughout each scholarship round. This means that successful applicants may be notified before the application deadline for their round.
A panel of senior staff will assess your application and you will be notified if you have been successful no later than the dates below, depending on the scholarship round in which you applied. You may be notified earlier if your application is successful.
- Round 1: Friday 6 November 2026
- Round 2: Friday 4 December 2026
If you are awarded the scholarship, you must meet all deadlines stated in your scholarship offer, including the scholarship deposit deadline.
Failure to meet the scholarship deposit deadline will result in the scholarship being withdrawn, even where a later course deposit deadline has been agreed.

Please note that if you are assessed as eligible to pay Home fees as the result of a fee query, your fee status will be amended to Home and you will not be eligible for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship.
