Terms and conditions

1. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is a £10,000 award applied to students entering Year 1 of an eligible full-time, campus-based Postgraduate Taught Master’s programme commencing in January 2027. It is applied to your first year of study only.

1.1 The scholarship will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount only and cannot be used in place of any required deposit. No cash alternative is available.

1.2 Students must be domiciled in Mainland China or Türkiye and be classified as an international fee-paying student.

1.3 Domicile is defined as where you have been ordinarily resident for three years or longer before the start of the course. This does not include where you are living for study purposes if you are studying outside of the place where you are otherwise ordinarily resident.

2. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is for entry into Cardiff University in January 2027 only and cannot be used for any other intake or year of entry.

2.1 If you are awarded a scholarship and wish to defer your entry to the University, your scholarship will not be transferred. However, you may be eligible to apply for scholarships available for your new year of entry.

3. To be eligible to apply for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship, you must:

3.1 hold an offer for an eligible full-time, campus-based Postgraduate Taught Master’s programme commencing in January 2027 at the point of submitting your scholarship application

3.2 have accepted your academic course offer by the deadline of the scholarship round in which you are applying

3.3 submit a completed scholarship application by the deadline of the scholarship round in which you are applying

3.4 Applications may be reviewed and scholarship awards made throughout each scholarship round. This means that successful applicants may be notified before the application deadline for their round.

3.5 meet all conditions of your academic offer, including any English Language conditions and any other outstanding conditions stated in your offer, by 18 December 2026. You must have met all conditions required for the University to issue your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) by this date.

4. Where an applicant does not meet the deadlines specified in relation to the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship, the award will be withdrawn.

5. Applicants who are notified that they have been awarded the scholarship must meet all deadlines stated in their scholarship offer.

5.1 This includes paying their course deposit by the scholarship deposit deadline stated in their scholarship offer. The scholarship deposit deadline is separate from any deposit deadline attached to your academic course offer.

5.2 Any extension agreed to your academic course deposit deadline does not automatically extend the deadline attached to your Red Dragon Scholarship award. An extension agreed by Admissions or any other University team in relation to your course offer applies to your course offer only.

5.3 The scholarship deposit deadline stated in your scholarship offer is final and cannot be extended. If the required deposit is not received by this deadline, the scholarship award will be withdrawn, even where a later course deposit deadline has been agreed.

6. Applicants who are not successful in securing a scholarship in their first round will be eligible to apply again in any subsequent scholarship round.

7. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is available for full-time, Cardiff campus-based programmes only.

8. You must be confirmed as an Overseas Student for fee-paying purposes. This information is contained in your offer letter.

8.1 If you are assessed as eligible to pay Home fees as the result of a fee query, your fee status will be amended to Home and you will not be eligible for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship.

9. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is only available to self-funded students.

9.1 If you are in receipt of funding consisting of either tuition fees or tuition fees and living costs from an external body which will be invoiced by the University for fees, such as a government, charity or private organisation, you will not be eligible for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship.

9.2 Students in receipt of educational loans are eligible for the award.

10. Applicants who are in receipt of any other scholarship, bursary, funding or discount from Cardiff University will not be eligible for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship, except as specified in point 10.1.

10.1 Applicants who are eligible for a tuition fee discount or scholarship through a Cardiff University partnership institution may also apply for the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship. If successful, applicants may choose to receive either the Red Dragon Scholarship or their partnership discount, but not both

11. The Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship is not available to students who are initially awarded the scholarship but, following enrolment at the University, subsequently transfer to an academic programme which is not eligible for the award.

12. You must be able to satisfy all financial requirements as part of your visa application for study in the UK. You should not rely solely on receiving the Cardiff University Red Dragon Scholarship to meet UKVI financial requirements.

13. Applicants should leave sufficient time for their course application and supporting documents to be reviewed and processed before the relevant deadlines. This can take up to 10 working days.
