Which course is right for you?

Choosing the right course will depend on your current level of English language and what you're hoping to achieve.

Whichever programme you decide on, you'll receive educational counselling and support.

And if you are staying on as a full-time student at the University, we will gladly make arrangements for you to visit your Academic School and offer our advice and assistance during your transition. You can also benefit from open access support classes in English language and academic study skills, as well as one-to-one tutorial sessions.

English for University Study Programme

The English for University Study Programme focuses on providing students with the academic study skills they need to study effectively in a UK environment, covering language, study and professional skills and British academic culture.

Pre-sessional summer courses

"I enjoyed the course and it helped me a lot with my speaking skills – I am now much more confident to speak in front of people."

Mui Hoon Tan, Malaysia

If you are looking to improve your English and have an IELTS (Academic) score of 5.0 or above, you can study on an intensive course in English for Academic Purposes. The courses run during the summer, before you start your academic degree.

Please note that these courses are only available for students who hold an offer to study at Cardiff University.

In-sessional English Language Support Programme

For current students who want to improve their English language skills to perform well as part of their degree, we offer an in-sessional English Language Support Programme. This consists of a range of language classes that support both undergraduate and postgraduate study.
