LGBTQ+ inclusion
Our commitment to the LGBTQ+ community is longstanding, and we remain dedicated to ensuring that we are an inclusive and welcoming environment for our LGBTQ+ staff and students.
Stonewall
As part of our work towards LGBTQ+ equality, we are members of the Stonewall Global Diversity Champions.
Cardiff University achieved a silver recognition award in 2024 for Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index (WEI), ranking 109th out of 246 employers in the UK for LGBTQ+ equality. The WEI is a global benchmarking tool which provides insights into areas of strength and weakness in an organisation in relation to its LGBTQ+ equality.
We also participate in Cardiff’s annual summer Pride parade.
Since 2023, we have hosted a breakfast and a pre-parade event in collaboration with the Students’ Union. All staff and students are invited to attend the event, which involves marching in the vibrant parade through the city as one community.
Enfys
Enfys (Welsh for rainbow) is the University’s LGBT+ network for all staff and postgraduates at Cardiff University.
The network has been active since 2006, and meets throughout the year covering a range of activities: social events, awareness-raising events, hosting guest speakers and getting involved in University-wide EDI initiatives.
Enfys works closely with the EDI Hub on events such as Pride, as well as supporting the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index application.
