This course covers topical areas of astronomy and space science, including recent advances in the study of planets, stars, galaxies and cosmology.

Workshops will consist of a taught lecture component supplemented with hands-on and online activities.

A mix of classroom based and online teaching.

Learning and teaching

Teaching will take place by means of short talks that outline the subject material and provide essential content, along with hands-on research via the internet for more in-depth study.

Various websites and software packages will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to carry out their own astronomical investigations.

Students will learn by lecture, practical use of ICT, and hands-on investigation.

There will be plenty of opportunity for question and answer sessions, and discussion related to the theme of the particular workshop.

Coursework and assessment

To award credits we need to have evidence of the knowledge and skills you have gained or improved.

Some of this has to be in a form that can be shown to external examiners so that we can be absolutely sure that standards are met across all courses and subjects.

The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance your learning.

Our methods are designed to increase your confidence and we try very hard to devise ways of assessing you that are enjoyable and suitable for adults with busy lives.
