Public health research
Our public health research focuses on improving health, social care and rehabilitation services for people who access eye care or experience sight problems.
Through collaborative, interdisciplinary and person-centred research, our goal is to generate evidence that improves access, quality and outcomes while supporting innovation, equity and sustainability across eye care services.
Eye care is one of the busiest areas in the NHS and is under growing pressure due to people living longer and becoming more likely to experience vision loss. Our research examines how services can be designed, delivered and evaluated to better meet the needs of individuals, families and communities. We work across the patient journey from primary and hospital eye care through to rehabilitation and social care, exploring ways to improve care pathways, reduce delays, support independence and enhance quality of life. Our research is underpinned by a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, ensuring that services are effective, accessible and responsive to the needs of all communities. This work will help to shape policy, redesign services, and promote inclusive care that puts individuals at the centre.
