Visiting Scholars programme

The School of English, Communication and Philosophy is an interdisciplinary centre of excellence with an international reputation in research and a rich experience of PhD supervision.  Our scholars take leading roles in the transformation of their respective disciplines, contributing to the work of our multi-disciplinary research centres.  We nurture a supportive and friendly environment for staff and students, encouraging our community to set agendas and challenge current thinking.

We welcome visiting scholars and postgraduate researchers for any period up to a maximum of 12 months.

Please note that academics in Communication are not presently available to host visiting scholars or students. We continue to welcome expressions of interest from prospective visitors working in English Literature, Creative Writing, and Philosophy.

Visiting scholars

To qualify as a visiting scholar, you must be currently associated with an international institution of Higher Education. Please note that this is a visitor programme: no mentoring, supervision, or collaboration with academic staff is offered. Visiting scholars are expected to work independently during their time in Cardiff University.

Visiting postgraduate researchers

To qualify as a visiting postgraduate researcher, you must be a student currently studying for a PhD at another institution. If you are not currently pursuing a PhD at your home institution, you will not be eligible. Please note this is a visitor programme; no supervision and feedback on work will be offered.

You may be able to access the following opportunities, depending on availability during your visit:

• Opportunities to attend modules (including lectures and seminars) relating to your research area (dependent on class sizes and availability)
• Opportunities to attend postgraduate seminars (dependent on class sizes and availability)
• Opportunities to attend research seminars offered within the School
• Opportunity to present a paper at a research seminar

You will be provided the following:

• Access to all University Library facilities
• Access to the University IT network and open-access work stations
• Assistance with initial IT set-up needs
