About us

We are a multidisciplinary School bringing together English Literature & Creative Writing, English Language & Linguistics and Philosophy. We value critical rigour, creative thinking, and intellectual inquisitiveness.

We are a diverse community of more than one thousand undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, over sixty academic staff and an experienced team of professional services colleagues. All are key to our success as an outward-looking, internationally leading School. We are committed to a supportive environment for work and study, sustained by the principles of connectivity, equality, diversity and inclusion, and inspired by the values of the humanities.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes provide both practical skills and an opportunity to explore – and intervene in – contemporary debates about literature, language, cultural identity and the business of being human.

We aim to deliver international leadership on trans-disciplinary research that combines the critical with the creative, producing work that is intellectually rich, innovative in approach, methods and forms, and impactful in relation to our wider communities.
