Cardiff University Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Unit welcomes Phil Swan

We would like to welcome and introduce Phil Swan the new Business Development Manager in the Continuing Professional Development Unit.

I can support researchers, academics or professional services staff to disseminate academic research to business and industry through practical, engaging and impact-focused training programmes. I’m joining an excellent team recognised for their client-centred customer service approach, and they have already made me feel very welcome.”

Phil joined the CPD Unit on 9^th October having previously worked in an international development role at Swansea University which saw him working throughout the Middle East, as well as China and Russia. Before this, Phil has worked in industry-facing business engagement roles at Cardiff University, Aberystwyth University and the University of Bedfordshire.

Phil is responsible for supporting colleagues in the development and delivery of CPD activities and he will be the principal liaison between the CPD Unit and the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.  His approach is to develop collaborative partnerships with client organisations and colleagues, in a way that is focused on flexible and tailored learning solutions, as well as the development needs of individual learners.

This appointment will bring new expertise to the CPD Unit, which provides a range of opportunities for businesses including short courses, specialist training, bespoke opportunities and blended learning solutions.  The Unit offers a gateway to the wide range of expertise available within Cardiff University, working with academic staff to facilitate the dissemination of the University’s research and knowledge to the business community. The team have a wealth of experience in developing and delivering successful CPD activities through an annual open programme and working with businesses and academic schools on bespoke CPD courses.
