Academic exchange strengthens place based research

Dr Jose Siri visited Cardiff University as part of an academic exchange to develop and strengthen links as part of the healthier Malaysian cities project.
Dr Siri presented elements of the project, known as SCHEMA in two well-received public seminars at Cardiff University, to a wide range of academics, physicians, planners and policy-makers.
Speaking about the visit Dr Yi Gong, a member of the project team based at the Sustainable Places Research Institute said: ” Jose’s visit has been extremely timely and we have been able to meet with members of the Welsh Government, including the Chief Medical Officer for Wales, to discuss the potential for developing links. This could include linking up on areas covered by the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act in project workshops and exchanges, a possibility which has generated significant interest.”
Dr José Siri is an epidemiologist focusing on infectious disease transmission, systems-analytic research and global urban health—he joined United Nations University, International Institute for Global Health in February 2014 as a Research Fellow in Urban Health
Systems thinking and place-based methods for healthier Malaysian cities (SCHEMA) is a joint project between the Sustainable Places Research Institute and the International Institute for Global Health, funded by Newton-Ungku Omar Fund.
